Glass: In Search of Creative Environmental Histories

2022 / 2023

Most glass is composed of sand and salt with additional minerals as modifying agents. Its rich material origins, as well as its complex environmental and social histories, are obscured by its seeming transparency.

In partnership with Durham University’s Department of Geography, Centre for Visual Arts and Culture, National Glass Centre and Sunderland University, this Collaborative Doctoral Research explores glass’s unique material qualities and intersecting histories, while drawing lessons toward sustainable futures.
