Anne Vibeke Mou works across sculpture and drawing finding possibilities in the nature of materials through their elemental transformation into glass. She uses glass composition and diamond point engraving by hand to transmute botanical and mineral elements into objects that weave together histories and ancient landscapes in contemporary contexts.
Born in Denmark, 1978, Anne Vibeke Mou moved to United Kingdom in 1999 to study at Glasgow School of Art and Royal College of Art, London. She lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne and Cumbria. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries such as Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, MIMA, National Glass Centre, Sunderland, Contemporary Art Society, Two Temple Place and Camden Art Centre in London, and KunstraumLangenlois, Austria. Her work is in the collection of V&A, London, Laing Art Gallery, Tyne & Wear Museums with permanent commissions in Shandy Hall, Laurence Sterne Trust, Coxwold, York and St John’s, Healey, Northumberland, UK. She has undertaken residencies at Corning Museum of Glass, USA, Bullseye Projects, Scotland, Upernavik Museum, North West Greenland, Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, Prague, Czech Republic, Sunderland University and National Glass Centre, UK.
