Qadas
July, 2023
Pen on paper.
Studies of remnant trees and crops once tended by Palestinian farmers in the depopulated and demolished village of Qadas, Galilee. The drawings are of olives, almonds, wheat, and thistle – plants which nourished a community and in some cultures are assigned symbols of peace, wisdom, resistance, resilience, rootedness, belonging, prosperity, kindness, hope and renewal.
With thanks to Northern Bridge Consortium, Durham University, Noam Leshem, archaeologists and volunteers in Palestine and Israel.
